A protest of Sarah Palin and John McCain is planned for this afternoon, timed to begin at 5:15 pm. Protesters are meeting at the nearest end to Airport Road by the Princess Hotel parking lot. The protesters will walk over to the Sadler's Plaza/Aerofuel hangar where the rally is being held, to demonstrate that "Alaskans first", as Republican party spokesman McHugh Pierre termed it, doesn't necessarily mean "Palin first."
A lot of Alaskans aren't happy with McCain or with his choice of Palin as vice-presidential candidate. (And by keeping her under wraps except to oh-so-friendly crowds, it looks like the McCain campaign is a bit nervous about letting her out on her own with the national and international media, where—heavens!—actual information about her might get out. Palin's a good speaker, but she's not been under the kind of scrutiny that a dogged press will give her. 'Course, a dogged press is pretty rare in this day and country...)
Groups like Alaska Women Reject Palin, "We're Not That Stupid", and Women Against Sarah Palin" are expressing viewpoints that the protesters can relate to. So get yer signs fixed up and show the world that Alaskans are not all slavish celebrity-worshippers.
AMENDMENT This is also a pro-Obama rally, rather than merely an anti-Palin protest.
