Christmas dinner at the family homestead consists of certain traditional foods: goose (brined and then roasted), sweet potatoes with pecans and brown sugar, fennel & brie, ice cream...we also have traditional Christmas Eve foods, often of a Scandinavian bent: Swedish spareribs (allspice, pepper, salt, and sugar, cooked slowly and carmelized), Swedish meatballs, and shrimp snitters. Cornbread on Christmas morning is another tradition. Although chocolate is a regular, it doesn't have that traditional food feel to it...
I love the comfort of such tasty, traditional foods for particular holidays. Yum.
