Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir
The new prime minister of Iceland has broken barriers for two important groups: women--she is the first female Prime Minister of Iceland--and homosexuals--she is the modern world's first openly gay head of state. She assumed office February 1, 2009.

I'm very glad the story made it to the US. Unfortunately, the new elections are coming up in a few months. I really hope she (and her coalition) won't be caretakers.
Did you know that back in the 70's South Oz had an openly gay State Premier? His boyfriend would pick him up at the end of the day! One time, he opened parliament wearing hotpants :)
She's 66 years old? Nice.
Superficiality aside, Good for her and Good for Iceland!

My wife is Icelandic, so we sorta pay attention to Iceland politics. Maybe some day Alaska will be so rational.
Imagine Alaska with a "Social Affairs Minister."
